Think about it this way: no one uses plumbs in desserts because plumbs don't need to be dressed up with sugars, puddings, breads, and syrups. People have faith in the original product - no additives required.

Plums _are_ underrated -- especially the nice red ones with the yellow meat, like what's pictured. The skin is so tart, and the flesh so sweet; it's like sweet & sour chicken, only without the chicken.

Other neglected fruits? Tangerines! When was the last time you had tangerine juice? It's SO much better than OJ.

And then there are papayas, mangoes (one of my favorites), jackfruit, persimmons, açai, goji berries, and the list goes on and on. But I like neither açai nor goji berries.

thanks everyone that responded with this outpouring for plums- i'm feeling a lot better about the situation in general now. Good to know they're getting the recognition they deserve in Asia.

Plum wine- will have to try.
Plum Pudding- Bash: good call i think i have actually heard of it though I've never had it.

I received emails for some other neglected fruit - Leche Nuts, Jackfruit and Pomegranates plus the ones listed above. Thanks everyone for their support of the lesser-known fruit.

oh, and I was familiar w/ the Plum Framework for CF- i actually met Adam Churvis last year at a preso he did for the AZ CFUG. thanks!

plums are in many deserts in China. Preserved plums are quite popular too coming in all sorts of varieties. Oh, and Japan I think has that horrible plum wine too, eh?

i guess it's cultural but i grew up eating lekvar (delicious prune/plum filled cookies).

neglected fruits? watermelons, cantaloupes, guava, grapes, and a big bunch of thai fruit that's only eaten raw.
